Magellan has partnered with national experts in behavioral health recovery and resiliency to offer e-courses for providers, consumers, family members and other stakeholders. These trainings are free of charge and were developed in collaboration with Recovery Innovation, Child Family Support Services, the Family Involvement Center, and consumers and family members.
Dr. Lori Ashcraft, Ph.D., Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner (CPRP) is the Executive Director of the ROC, and will be your instructor for this series of classes. During her 35 year behavioral health career, Lori has had a strong interest in the therapeutic effects of self-determination, choice, and personal freedom. After a full career in California that included serving as Deputy Director for Community Programs for the state Department of Mental Health, she re-located to Arizona where she accepted the position as Director for Adult Services for the Regional Behavioral Health Authority. Lori also served as faculty for the University of Arizona, teaching psycho-social rehabilitation and managing one of eight SAMHSA funded employment demonstration programs. It was during this time that Lori became involved in the recovery movement. Through training with Mary Ellen Copeland and help from colleagues at Boston University, her commitment to recovery principles became a passion. When META Services opened the Recovery Education Center in the fall of 2000, Lori accepted the position as Executive Director of the Center.
Lori’s vision for the future is to continue teaching recovery principles and practices, assuring people that they can recover. She has recently developed a curriculum to help consumers move beyond recovery by finding their purpose, making their own unique contribution, and using their experiences to help others grow and recover. Her own passion for recovery stems from personal experience having struggled with severe depression most of her life. Having her own WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) puts her in a position of knowing she never has to be a victim of her symptoms.
Each e-course opens in a separate window where you will be asked to complete a very brief demographic survey before the course begins. Navigating the course is easy through use of navigation “buttons” and left-menu headings.
In each class you'll see content intended for individuals experiencing mental illness, as well as for their friends and family and service providers. Supporters play a crucial role and can significantly help someone in recovery. It is important that the main people in our life understand how recovery comes about and what we will be focused on, so that we can be surrounded by people aware of the strategies and aligned with the goals. So encourage your family and friends to learn along with you, helping everyone advance in understanding recovery and learning what we can each do to most productively bring that about. After each course you will be asked a few questions to help you assess your understanding of the content in this class. Successfully complete this test and you can print out a Certificate of Completion.
Magellan’s e-learning courses offer continuing education hours /credits for participants. CE credits for these courses are approved by the following organizations:
Providers can receive one (1) CE hour per course for courses 1-6 and one half hour CE (0.5) per course for courses 7-9 by completing the post test and the Continuing Education Evaluation survey that follows each course. Course 10 is a review of the resiliency courses 7-9 therefore CE hours/credits will not be issued. Upon completion and submission of the survey, a CE certificate will be e-mailed to the e-mail address provided. Additional instructions are available following the course. It is the responsibility of each participant to determine whether the CE credit will be recognized by your state specific licensing or credentialing board. If you have any questions specifically regarding the courses and/or the CE process, contact our Clinical Operations Coordinator at CE@magellanhealth.com.
